Golden Valley Agricultural Research Trust (GART) is seeking a skilled workshop mechanic to join our team in Chisamba, Central Zambia. About the Workshop Mechanic Role
As a workshop mechanic at GART, you will play a critical role in supporting our agricultural operations by ensuring all machinery and equipment are maintained to the highest standards. This position requires hands-on expertise in diagnosing, repairing, and overhauling tractors, diesel engines, and farm implements, as well as familiarity with irrigation systems including booster pumps and centre pivot irrigation.
Key Responsibilities for Workshop Mechanic Jobs in Chisamba
- Plan and coordinate workshop activities in collaboration with the Farm Manager to optimize workflow and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Perform timely servicing and maintenance of farm machinery to reduce downtime during critical field operations.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and conduct repairs on a variety of agricultural equipment and vehicles.
- Overhaul machinery and calibrate equipment to ensure operational accuracy and efficiency.
- Maintain detailed records of all repairs and maintenance activities to support asset management.
- Ensure the workshop environment, tools, and equipment remain clean, safe, and well-organized.
- Supervise and provide guidance to workshop staff, fostering a productive and safe working atmosphere.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of five years’ relevant experience, preferably within a busy agricultural workshop setting.
- Proven expertise in repairing and maintaining tractors, diesel engines, and farm implements.
- Knowledge of irrigation system components such as booster pumps, borehole pumps, and centre pivot systems.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications for reporting and documentation.
- Membership with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) is essential.
