Position Overview: Workshop Manager Jobs in Livingstone
As Workshop Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and availability of all light vehicles, trucks, tractors, earthmoving equipment, and logistics assets. Your leadership will be crucial in managing workshop staff, coordinating maintenance schedules, and implementing vehicle tracking systems to maximize operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain the entire fleet in excellent running condition to ensure maximum equipment availability and reliability.
- Organize, coordinate, and supervise workshop staff deployment to minimize machinery downtime.
- Identify faults and maintain vehicles and tractors according to preventive and corrective maintenance schedules compliant with OEM and company standards.
- Possess comprehensive knowledge of pneumatic systems for trucks and trailers.
- Assist in developing and reviewing maintenance Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Conduct daily inspections of all fleet machinery and equipment using checklists.
- Respond promptly to vehicle breakdowns during and outside working hours, both on- and off-site.
- Supervise tasks delegated to workshop technicians.
- Identify spare parts requirements and manage procurement following departmental procedures.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe workshop environment adhering to SHEQ standards.
- Submit weekly Uptime Workshop Reports.
- Monitor and track company vehicles to ensure compliance with policies.
- Coordinate and schedule delivery vehicles in collaboration with department heads.
- Supervise and allocate duties to dedicated company drivers.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Full Grade 12 Certificate.
- Diploma or higher qualification in Automotive Mechanics or Auto Electrical from a reputable institution.
- Minimum of 7 to 10 years’ experience as an Auto Electrician in a Heavy Machinery Equipment (HME) workshop, with at least 5 years in a supervisory role.
- Valid Class C Driver’s License.
- Membership of the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) is an advantage.
Essential Skills and Competencies
- Solid understanding of electrical principles as applied to truck and motor vehicle electrical systems.
- Knowledge of electronically controlled engines, fuel systems, transmissions, and related wiring systems.
- Experience using diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot electronic controls on earthmoving equipment, trucks, and light vehicles.
- Proficiency in repair techniques for starter motors, alternators, and other repairable components.
- Familiarity with Benz, Iveco, Ford, and Toyota fleet mechanical and electronic systems is a plus.
- Experience with gensets ranging from 20KVA to 500KVA.
- Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
Note: All candidates must obtain certification from the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA) as a mandatory requirement for this role.
