Role Overview: Veterinary and Technical Services Associate

The successful candidate will provide essential veterinary and technical support across Zamgoat’s meat processing operations and livestock projects. This role plays a critical part in ensuring food safety, quality assurance, and the technical delivery of breeding, production, and infrastructure initiatives for goats, sheep, and cattle. The Veterinary Technical Services Associate will work closely with field teams, farmers, and cooperatives to enhance livestock health, welfare, and biosecurity standards.

Key Responsibilities

Support meat quality assurance, food safety, hygiene, and veterinary compliance within processing operations.
Provide technical guidance on livestock health, welfare, and biosecurity measures.
Assist in the development and implementation of breeding and production programs for goats, sheep, and cattle.
Offer technical expertise for livestock housing and infrastructure projects.
Conduct thorough assessments of livestock, farms, and project sites.
Develop and enforce herd-health, breeding, and livestock management protocols.
Train and support farmers, cooperatives, project beneficiaries, and Zamgoat staff on veterinary and technical matters.
Contribute to technical project proposals, implementation, commissioning, and monitoring.
Maintain and update Zamgoat’s standards for livestock production, veterinary care, biosecurity, and quality assurance.
Support livestock procurement and related supply chain activities as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates must hold one of the following qualifications:

A Degree in Veterinary Medicine from a recognised institution; OR
A recognised qualification as a Veterinary Assistant/Technician, Animal Health Technician, or a related field, with a minimum of five years’ practical livestock experience.

Additionally, the ideal candidate will demonstrate:

Strong practical interest and experience in livestock production, particularly with goats, sheep, and cattle.
Knowledge of livestock health, disease prevention, animal welfare, and biosecurity protocols.
Familiarity or keen interest in meat hygiene, food safety, and quality assurance standards.
A hands-on, field-oriented approach with a willingness to travel to various project locations.
Excellent communication, record-keeping, and report-writing skills.
Experience in livestock breeding, abattoir/meat processing, farm infrastructure, farmer training, or livestock project implementation is advantageous.

Recent Veterinary Medicine graduates and early-career veterinarians with practical experience in livestock production systems are strongly encouraged to apply.
