Role Overview for Telecom IT Engineer Jobs in Lusaka

This role demands a hands-on professional with strong experience supporting telecom platforms, ensuring service availability, and troubleshooting complex system and integration issues. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of telecom architecture, service flows, and end-to-end dependencies across IT and network layers. The position requires the ability to perform efficiently under pressure during production incidents and system outages, with a readiness to participate in on-call rotations, including weekends and nights.

Key Responsibilities

• Telecom Systems Operations & Support: Manage daily operations of telecom platforms spanning BSS, CS, and VAS systems. Ensure high availability, stability, and performance of applications and services. Conduct system health checks, proactive monitoring, and support production environments adhering to SLAs and KPIs.
• Incident Management & Troubleshooting: Provide first and second line support for telecom system issues. Troubleshoot service degradations, call/session failures, and platform incidents. Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive measures. Collaborate with vendors, network, and application teams to resolve issues.
• System Integration & Interface Management: Support integration of telecom systems such as HLR/HSS, SMSC, OCS, billing, CRM, and provisioning platforms. Monitor and troubleshoot interfaces including SOAP, REST APIs, Diameter, FTP, and MQ. Validate configuration changes and ensure smooth data and signaling flows.
• Service Delivery & Provisioning Support: Facilitate service activation, deactivation, and modification workflows. Ensure accurate provisioning from CRM/BSS to network elements, investigate failed transactions, and monitor subscriber lifecycle and service usage flows.
• Monitoring, Performance & Optimization: Utilize monitoring tools to track system performance, traffic, and capacity. Identify bottlenecks and propose optimization strategies. Support capacity planning and scaling activities to maintain optimal system performance.
• Change, Release & Configuration Management: Assist with deployment of configuration changes, patches, and upgrades. Participate in change management processes ensuring minimal service disruption. Validate system stability post-release and maintain configuration consistency.
• Data & Event Flow Management: Manage telecom data flows including CDRs, charging events, and signaling records. Ensure accurate data generation, processing, and forwarding. Collaborate with analytics and billing teams to maintain data integrity and resolve discrepancies.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for systems, interfaces, and procedures. Document incidents, root cause analyses, and preventive actions. Provide regular operational reports and contribute to knowledge base development.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related field.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in telecom IT operations or system support roles.
• Strong exposure to BSS, CS, or VAS telecom platforms.
• Solid understanding of telecom architecture and end-to-end service flows including call and session lifecycles.
• Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills within complex distributed systems.
• Experience working in production support environments managing 24/7 critical systems.
