About the Technician – System Protection Role
Reporting directly to the Supervisor – Protection, the successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of protection equipment. This role is critical to maintaining operational excellence and safeguarding electrical protection schemes against faults. The position is full-time and permanent, classified under CEC 9.
Key Responsibilities for Technician System Protection Jobs in Kitwe
- Calibrate relays to ensure they operate within specified parameters.
- Perform condition-based maintenance on protection schemes to guarantee smooth fault response.
- Repair defective protection schemes and relays to restore full operational capacity.
- Participate in installation and commissioning activities for upgrading existing protection schemes and accommodating new load expansions.
- Execute maintenance tasks efficiently and accurately, aiming to complete assignments within allocated timeframes to minimize overtime.
- Ensure proper use of company resources, including vehicles and tools, to prevent misuse.
- Promote safety by conducting toolbox talks and implementing preventive measures against unsafe practices.
- Maintain excellent housekeeping standards and actively participate in Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) meetings.
- Adapt to additional duties as assigned, supporting the company’s multiskilling initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- Grade 12 Full Certificate.
- Technician’s Certificate in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
- Membership with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ).
- Minimum of three years’ post-qualification experience in a similar role within a comparable technical environment.
- Strong understanding of power systems and engineering drawings.
