The Technical Officer will play a pivotal role in advancing ZCCM-IH’s mining projects by managing key technical aspects that promote business growth and value addition. This full-time position is temporary for a 12-month period and is based in Kalulushi. The successful candidate will be responsible for the scientific evaluation of exploration areas, technical data interpretation, and the strategic development of mining operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze, collate, and store physical field samples for scientific evaluation of exploration sites.
• Recommend lease acquisitions or disposals based on integrated geological and geophysical data.
• Interpret technical data, finalize maps, and assess associated risks.
• Conceptualize mining operations by evaluating mining methods and operational parameters for economic mineral extraction.
• Lead the development and implementation of frameworks for economic participation in new mining ventures.
• Conduct strategic technical studies to advise management on engineering and business options.
• Perform technical audits of subsidiaries and investee companies to ensure compliance with mining regulations and technical standards.
• Formulate and implement value addition partnerships, integrating machinery, labor, and financial support for subsidiaries.
• Evaluate potential investment opportunities to ensure technical soundness and regulatory compliance.
• Ensure efficient, sustainable, and profitable ore extraction and processing.
• Prepare and review annual plans and budgets; support exploration, mining, and processing activities.
• Prepare timely reports for internal management use.
• Perform other lawful duties as assigned by supervisors.

Qualifications and Experience

• GCE/Grade 12 qualification with credit passes in English, Mathematics, and Sciences.
• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, Mining, Mineral Processing, or related fields.
• Eligibility for membership in the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) and/or the Geological Society of Zambia (GSZ).
• Minimum of 4 years’ experience in the mining or related industry.
• Proven experience across various stages of the mining value chain, including resource and reserve development.
• Previous supervisory experience in a technical role with multidisciplinary teams.
