Role Overview: Technical Advisor Jobs in Kalumbila

The Technical Advisor will provide expert technical guidance and troubleshooting support across a diverse fleet of heavy mining and earthmoving equipment. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience with Komatsu, Volvo, and Caterpillar machinery, specializing in fault diagnosis, maintenance planning, breakdown management, condition monitoring, and improving equipment reliability.

This role demands technical leadership beyond standard fault finding, working closely with maintenance teams, operations, OEM representatives, and planners to enhance equipment availability, reliability, and cost efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver advanced technical support for Komatsu, Volvo, and CAT heavy mining equipment.
• Lead diagnosis and troubleshooting of complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, electronic, engine, transmission, drivetrain, cooling, steering, braking, and control system failures.
• Support maintenance teams during significant equipment breakdowns.
• Interpret OEM fault codes, technical manuals, hydraulic and electrical schematics, and diagnostic data to verify faults before replacing major components.
• Provide technical direction during major component replacements and repairs.
• Perform post-repair inspections and functional testing prior to returning equipment to service.
• Coordinate with OEM and dealer technical support for specialized interventions.

Candidate Requirements and Competencies

• Tertiary qualification or recognized trade certificate in mechanical engineering or related field.
• 5 to 10 years of experience working with heavy mechanical equipment, including dozers (D475A & D375A), CAT 785C & 777D trucks, Volvo A40F, WA600, WD900, and graders GD825A.
• Proven leadership skills with the ability to delegate and foster teamwork.
• Strong understanding of production and maintenance strategies for large-scale continuous mineral mining equipment.
• Experience managing work permit systems and safe work procedures in mining environments.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to make timely and sound decisions.
• Professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality in all interactions.
• Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
• Ability to work in a remote, technically challenging environment and support team objectives.

Experience and Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a maintenance role, with at least 3 years in a senior supervisory capacity.
• Experience in mining or heavy-duty industry environments is essential.
• Grade 12 Certificate and a minimum Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or relevant heavy mining equipment discipline.
• Membership with the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) is required.
