Teacher – English and Literature

Job Purpose: The successful candidate will prepare and deliver structured, differentiated lessons to secondary school learners. This role emphasizes developing students’ communication, analytical, and interpretive skills while fostering literacy, critical thinking, and creativity in alignment with Cambridge Assessment International Education and the Zambian Competence Based Curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging, curriculum-aligned English Language and Literature lessons.
  • Employ varied active-learning strategies to enhance student engagement.
  • Assess, monitor, and report student progress with timely feedback.
  • Enhance learners’ reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension skills.
  • Promote critical analysis of literary genres including prose, poetry, and drama.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom environment.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and instructional resource creation.
  • Support extracurricular activities such as debate, public speaking, drama, and literary clubs.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and pastoral staff to support student success and well-being.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Full Grade 12 Certificate with at least 5 credits.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education specializing in English and/or Literature.
  • Ability to teach up to A-Level.
  • Registered and licensed with the Teaching Council of Zambia.
  • Qualifications verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority.
  • Familiarity with Examinations Council of Zambia and Cambridge assessment standards.
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience in a reputable school.
  • Strong command of English, creativity in lesson delivery, and excellent classroom management skills.
  • Computer literacy and commitment to continuous professional development.

Teacher of Mathematics (Major)

Job Purpose: This position involves delivering well-structured, differentiated Mathematics lessons designed to develop learners’ numerical fluency, logical reasoning, and problem-solving abilities, aligned with Cambridge and Zambian curricula.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and conduct engaging, curriculum-aligned Mathematics lessons.
  • Use step-by-step instructional methods to clarify complex concepts.
  • Employ diverse teaching strategies to support understanding and problem-solving.
  • Assess and monitor student performance, providing timely interventions.
  • Identify and address learning gaps effectively.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and well-managed classroom atmosphere.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and resource design.
  • Support enrichment programs such as mathematics clubs and competitions.

Teacher of Chemistry and Physics

Job Purpose: The role involves preparing and delivering differentiated Chemistry and Physics lessons that foster scientific knowledge, inquiry skills, and practical competencies, encouraging real-world applications of science.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver curriculum-aligned Chemistry and Physics lessons.
  • Utilize practical work, demonstrations, and experiments to enhance learning.
  • Ensure safe and effective laboratory practices and equipment use.
  • Assess and track student progress with timely feedback and interventions.
  • Promote scientific inquiry, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, and well-managed learning environment.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and science resource planning.
  • Support science clubs, STEM activities, and enrichment programs.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, parents, and pastoral staff.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum of three years teaching experience.
  • Strong subject mastery and competence in laboratory practical supervision and safety.

Special Education Needs & Learning Support Teacher

Job Purpose: This role supports Ashford Academy’s inclusive education commitment by providing specialized assistance to learners with special educational needs (SEN) and delivering high-quality Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education. The teacher will collaborate with staff, parents, and external professionals to ensure learners’ academic, social, and emotional development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments for students with potential learning difficulties and identify those needing additional support.
  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), ensuring they are practical, measurable, and tailored.
  • Maintain confidential records, track progress, chair IEP meetings, and review goals regularly.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, school leadership, and external support services.
  • Provide training and support to mainstream teachers on inclusive practices and IEP implementation.
  • Develop, implement, and review the school’s SEN policy and advocate for inclusive education.
  • Plan and deliver engaging PSHE lessons covering health, relationships, safety, financial literacy, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Promote learner confidence, resilience, decision-making, and positive behaviour within a safe and supportive environment.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or a related field; background in Guidance & Counselling or PSHE is advantageous.
  • Licensed Special Education Teacher registered with the Teaching Council of Zambia.
  • Strong assessment, analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, demonstrate empathy, and support colleagues.
  • Computer literacy is essential.
