Living Water International (LWI), a global non-governmental organization dedicated to providing safe drinking water and promoting Christian witness, is seeking a qualified Sustainability Coordinator to join its team in Petauke, Zambia. About the Role: Sustainability Coordinator Jobs in Zambia

Reporting directly to the Project Manager, the Sustainability Coordinator will play a pivotal role in sustainability planning, systems strengthening, governance support, and advancing the Government Co-Financing and community ownership agenda. This fixed-term contract position (12 months) focuses on managing 78 solar-powered piped water systems, applying the nine-building-block WASH Systems Strengthening framework to ensure institutional arrangements, financing, monitoring, and demand-side ownership are effectively implemented.

Key Responsibilities

• Sustainability Planning and Strategy: Implement a comprehensive WASH systems-strengthening approach encompassing governance, infrastructure, regulation, finance, monitoring, water resource management, and community engagement.
• Lead the development and coordination of a Government Co-Financing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with relevant ministries, provincial officers, district councils, and WASH committees.
• Manage the progressive transition of water systems to government and community ownership by tracking readiness milestones at all administrative levels.
• Capacity Building and Stakeholder Engagement: Provide training and mentorship to District WASH Committees, Water User Committees, and local authorities on governance, financial management, and sustainable operations and maintenance (O&M).
• Co-organize key events including project launches, partnership inceptions, and quarterly portfolio reviews involving government, church, traditional leadership, and community stakeholders.
• Advocate for the alignment of government co-financing frameworks with national WASH policies and emerging rural water service delivery models.
• Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning: Oversee sustainability-related performance indicators, conduct annual reviews on governance, financial management, and community ownership, and coordinate reporting and documentation of lessons learned.
• Technical Oversight: Support integration of Remote Monitoring Unit (RMU) data into asset management platforms and promote climate-resilient design in collaboration with engineering and water quality specialists.
• Environmental and Social Safeguards: Incorporate environmental sustainability, water source protection, and inclusive service delivery considerations, conduct risk assessments, and submit monthly reports.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in development studies, community development, governance, or a related field.
• At least five years of experience in WASH sustainability, systems strengthening, or rural service delivery.
• Proven experience working with government systems, NGOs, and community structures.
• Strong understanding of sustainability frameworks, including service delivery models, lifecycle costing, and governance.
• Excellent facilitation, training, capacity-building, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Familiarity with WASH-related software and tools, and knowledge of climate-resilient WASH practices.
• Leadership and team management capabilities.
• Fluency in English and local languages.
• Committed Christian with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
• Experience with international NGOs (I-NGOs) is an advantage.
