Role Overview: Strata Control Officer I
As a Strata Control Officer I, you will be responsible for providing strata control services and support within your designated area. You will implement and apply strata control measures to ensure the safety and productivity of mining operations. This role demands close collaboration with technical services and mining personnel to maintain high standards and procedures.
Key Responsibilities for Strata Control Officer Jobs in Solwezi
- Conduct pit slope audits and gather geotechnical data to assess geological and mining conditions.
- Identify potential defects and compile detailed reports and statistical summaries.
- Investigate pit instability issues and recommend improvements to enhance safety and productivity.
- Oversee and review the activities of Rock Engineering Observers, providing coaching and on-the-job training.
- Install, maintain, and manage slope stability monitoring devices.
- Apply rock engineering criteria and adhere to relevant policies, procedures, and standards.
- Collaborate effectively with stakeholders to improve strata control processes continuously.
- Ensure accurate and timely reporting of strata control data and information.
Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum Grade 12 or equivalent NQF 4 qualification with strong passes in Mathematics and Science.
- Mining-related tertiary qualification such as a Diploma or Degree, or a South African Minerals Council’s Strata Control Certificate.
- Blasting certificate is an advantage.
- 0-2 years rock engineering experience in surface or underground mining environments (with a degree) or 5-10 years with a Strata Control Certificate.

- Manage slope stability monitoring devices and oversee Rock Engineering Observers’ tasks.
- Investigate slope instability and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain compliance with organisational and legislative safety requirements.
- Review and improve strata control processes and resolve operational queries.
