This 12-month internship programme aims to equip participants with essential digital skills to thrive in remote work environments and build sustainable careers in technology.

About the Software Development Traineeship in Lusaka

Supported by Unearthodox, a Swiss non-profit organisation dedicated to vulnerable communities, this traineeship will commence in August 2026 at Mooto College, Zambia. The programme focuses on empowering individuals with hearing, speech, or mobility disabilities by providing hands-on training and mentorship in software development and related digital fields.

Recognising the barriers faced by young people living with disabilities in traditional employment settings, this initiative leverages the opportunities presented by remote work and digital services. Participants will gain practical experience and professional readiness to pursue careers as full-time, part-time, freelance, or remote workers.

Training Areas and Programme Structure

Over the course of 12 months, trainees will engage in comprehensive training sessions covering:

  • Software development fundamentals
  • Web development techniques
  • Graphic design skills
  • Digital competencies for remote work
  • Professional communication
  • Online work readiness and portfolio development
  • Employability and workplace preparation

Participants will be accommodated at Mooto College and will benefit from a collaborative co-working space, structured mentorship, and practical assignments aimed at preparing them for employment opportunities both locally and internationally.

Eligibility and Application Details for the Traineeship

This traineeship is open to young individuals living with disabilities who meet the following criteria:

  • Living with hearing, speech, or mobility disabilities
  • Completed and passed high school (Grade 12)
  • Computer literate with ownership of a personal computer or laptop
  • Proficient in reading and writing English
  • Willing to commit to a 12-month residential traineeship
  • Able to cover accommodation and meal costs of K2,000 per month
  • Committed to learning, teamwork, discipline, and professional growth
  • Interested in pursuing remote work opportunities post-programme
