Key Responsibilities for Site H&S Officer Jobs in Kitwe

• Develop, implement, and maintain Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) strategies, plans, and systems in compliance with SGS global and local legal requirements.
• Ensure effective communication and distribution of H&S Management System documentation and reporting processes for hazards, near misses, and incidents.
• Lead incident investigations and facilitate hazard identification and risk assessments for all operational activities.
• Coordinate training programs for employees and contractors on risk controls and HSE procedures.
• Manage internal and external audits, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are implemented promptly.
• Collaborate with clients and third-party subcontractors on HSE matters, including industrial hygiene surveys and medical surveillance programs.
• Prepare regular management system reports and support senior management in HSE meetings and reviews.
• Promote STOP WORK AUTHORITY and encourage proactive safety engagement among all personnel.
• Stay current with developments in HSMS, legislation, and client requirements, updating management accordingly.
• Lead and participate in safety initiatives, including the global safety month, ensuring full employee and contractor involvement.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma or equivalent qualification in a Health, Safety, and Environment related field.
• Minimum of three years’ experience working in HSE roles.
• Strong knowledge of HSE standards such as ISO 14001 and ISO 45001, and relevant local legislation.

Additional Information

The Site H&S Officer will have the authority to implement and update HSMS procedures, conduct audits, and halt any work that does not comply with client, company, or legal HSE requirements. Accountability includes reporting nonconformities and ensuring adherence to company integrity and governance policies.
