SMECH Engineering Services Zambia Limited is currently inviting applications for the role of SHEQ Officer for an exciting contract opportunity. This position supports the 20 MW power plant project at our client’s site, M/s Kawambwa Sugars Limited (KSL), located in Kawambwa, Luapula Province, Zambia. We are seeking a motivated professional with a solid background in safety, health, environment, and quality management to contribute to the success and safety of this project.

About the SHEQ Officer Role – SHEQ Officer Jobs in Kawambwa

As a SHEQ Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of safety, health, environment, and quality are maintained throughout the project lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have between three to five years of relevant experience within construction and factory environments, with a diploma in Safety and Health Management as the minimum educational requirement.

Key Responsibilities

• Implement and uphold comprehensive safety and health policies and procedures tailored to project needs.
• Lead regular toolbox talks, conduct audits, and perform thorough inspections to identify and mitigate risks.
• Provide ongoing training and expert guidance to workers and management on SHEQ best practices.
• Investigate accidents and incidents promptly, compiling detailed reports for management review.
• Oversee and coordinate the activities of the SHEQ committee to ensure collaborative safety efforts.
• Ensure full compliance with all statutory requirements and industry standards relevant to the project.
• Design, develop, and manage a robust SHEQ training program tailored to project-specific hazards.
• Maintain a safe working environment by enforcing safety measures related to working at heights, confined spaces, hot works, excavation, material lifting, and electrical safety.

Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma in Safety and Health Management or equivalent qualification.
• 3 to 5 years of practical experience working within SHEQ departments in construction and factory settings.
• Strong knowledge of safety protocols related to hazardous work environments including but not limited to heights, confined spaces, and electrical safety.
