About the Role

Reporting directly to the Service Manager at our Kitwe branch, this full-time position is offered for a fixed term of two years. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the operational excellence of Hitachi machinery through thorough inspections, servicing, and repairs. You will play a key role in customer satisfaction by ensuring timely communication and effective parts management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate workflow and execution timelines effectively to the Service Manager.
  • Perform routine inspections on Hitachi machines and produce detailed reports.
  • Conduct scheduled servicing and repairs on Hitachi and subsidiary company equipment.
  • Develop and communicate customer-specific parts lists in coordination with the Service Manager.
  • Liaise with the Parts Supervisor to obtain quotations and confirm stock availability, ensuring clear communication with customers.
  • Prepare scopes of work for approval by the Service Manager.
  • Respond promptly to unscheduled breakdowns and provide practical solutions.
  • Implement mandatory service bulletins on customer machinery as required.
  • Complete photographic and field information reports as necessary.
  • Support workshop and warehouse operations when needed.
  • Monitor Field Information reports to facilitate timely warranty claim processing.
  • Analyze warranty claim trends to identify recurring breakdown issues.
  • Serve as initial evaluator for warranty claims to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Confirm cost recovery through thorough machine inspections.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Full Grade 12 certificate is mandatory.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualification required.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role within the heavy equipment industry.
  • HI-TEP Repair certification is an advantage.
  • Experience as a repair mechanic or technician with medium to large heavy equipment.
  • Membership in the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) is essential.
  • Valid and clean manual driver’s license.

  • Excellent communication and customer relations abilities.
  • Proficient report writing skills for detailed documentation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently as required.
