About the Senior System Administrator Role in Lusaka

As a Senior System Administrator, you will be responsible for overseeing critical IT infrastructure including Windows and Linux servers, virtualization platforms such as VMware and Hyper-V, and cloud services on Azure and AWS. Your expertise will ensure the smooth operation of servers, storage, backup solutions, and disaster recovery processes, supporting software applications, hardware services, and fleet management operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and maintain Windows/Linux servers, Active Directory, and domain services.
• Oversee virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, Proxmox) and cloud environments (Azure, AWS).
• Configure and monitor storage systems, backup solutions, and disaster recovery protocols.
• Ensure patch management, firmware updates, and lifecycle maintenance of systems.
• Implement and enforce system security policies, access controls, and encryption standards.
• Monitor logs and alerts for suspicious activity, escalating incidents as necessary.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments and support remediation efforts.
• Ensure compliance with ISO 27001, GDPR, and organizational security standards.
• Monitor system performance, capacity, and availability using enterprise monitoring tools.
• Troubleshoot bottlenecks and optimize resource utilization across servers and applications.
• Maintain documentation of configurations, changes, and performance baselines.
• Provide recommendations for system upgrades and scalability improvements.
• Mentor junior administrators and IT support staff, offering technical guidance and training.
• Coordinate with network, hardware, and fleet teams to ensure integrated infrastructure support.
• Serve as an escalation point for complex technical issues.
• Participate in cross-functional projects to ensure system readiness and stability.
• Maintain audit-ready documentation and prepare regular reports on system health and incidents.
• Support audits by providing evidence of system governance and operational resilience.

Qualifications and Experience for Senior System Administrator Jobs in Lusaka

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 5 to 7 years of experience in systems administration, including at least 2 years in a senior capacity.
• Strong expertise in Windows/Linux server administration, virtualization, and cloud platforms.
• Proficiency with Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and Exchange/Office 365.
