Yalelo Limited is currently looking for a highly skilled and hands-on Senior Refrigeration Technician to join our Commercial Services team based in Lusaka, Zambia. This is a full-time, strategic, and project-driven role focused on maintenance, installation, and commissioning of advanced refrigeration systems. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in expanding our cold chain infrastructure while reducing reliance on external contractors.

About the Role: Senior Refrigeration Technician Jobs in Lusaka

As a Senior Refrigeration Technician, you will lead the installation, commissioning, and optimization of refrigeration equipment including cold rooms, chiller rooms, blast freezers, and flake ice machines. This position requires a proactive approach to maintenance and project execution, ensuring high system uptime and energy efficiency. You will also mentor junior technicians and contribute to cost optimization by driving in-house capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Refrigeration Systems Maintenance & Optimization: Lead preventive and corrective maintenance activities, diagnose complex faults, and implement continuous improvement strategies to enhance system efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
• Installation, Projects & Commissioning: Manage end-to-end installation and commissioning of cold rooms, chiller rooms, flake ice machines, and blast freezers. Interpret technical drawings and execute projects in-house to reduce contractor costs.
• Electrical Systems & Controls: Diagnose and repair electrical faults including motors, relays, sensors, and control panels. Perform PLC troubleshooting and electrical testing to ensure compliance with standards.
• Cost Optimization & Capability Development: Identify standardization opportunities, support procurement processes, and mentor junior staff to strengthen the internal refrigeration team.
• Documentation & Root Cause Analysis: Maintain accurate service records, conduct root cause analysis on recurring issues, and utilize CMMS for maintenance planning and tracking.
• Safety & Compliance: Ensure adherence to EIZ, ZEMA, and internal safety standards through risk assessments and safe work practices.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Operations, Compliance, Procurement, and Engineering teams to support infrastructure rollout and store upgrades.

Qualifications and Experience

• Full Grade 12 Certificate
• Diploma or Degree in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Electrical Engineering, or related field
• Valid EIZ Practicing License is highly desirable
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in commercial or industrial refrigeration
• Proven track record in installation and commissioning of cold rooms, blast freezers, and ice machines
• Strong expertise in electrical systems and PLC troubleshooting
• Experience in FMCG, food processing, or cold chain environments is preferred
• Demonstrated project leadership and ability to reduce costs through in-house execution
