Key Responsibilities for Senior Infrastructure Engineer Jobs in Lusaka

• Design & Technical Leadership: Lead engineering design for RNTI typologies including trail and cable bridges, stone arch bridges, short-span crossings, feeder roads, drainage systems, and access approaches, ensuring compliance with NCC and RDA standards.
• Support technical prioritization and costing of infrastructure projects, providing expert engineering judgment on typologies and sequencing.
• Evaluate candidate sites for technical feasibility using survey data and aerial imagery, proposing preliminary design alternatives.
• Calculate material quantities, prepare specifications, and collaborate with procurement on local material selection.
• Implement Fika’s standard design methodologies and approve design modifications during construction within delegated authority.
• Capacity Building: Strengthen the design and construction capabilities of government engineers and Zambian contractors through Fika’s accredited curriculum and Training-of-Trainers model.
• Construction Delivery, Quality & Compliance: Lead construction teams to deliver high-quality RNTI assets, manage procurement and construction through a private-sector delivery model, and ensure adherence to quality assurance, environmental screening (ZEMA), health and safety standards, and asset handover protocols.
• Conduct technical inspections of structures during and after construction, including design verification and as-built reviews.
• Team Leadership & Coordination: Supervise engineering and field staff, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and represent the activity in stakeholder meetings.

Qualifications and Experience

• Advanced degree in civil or structural engineering or a closely related discipline.
• Registered Professional Engineer with the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) and the Engineering Registration Board (ERB) is mandatory.
• At least 7 to 10 years of experience in rural transport infrastructure design and construction, including donor-funded or public-sector projects.
• Proven expertise in bridge and crossing typologies, feeder roads, construction supervision, quality assurance, and FIDIC-based contract administration.
• Experience in capacity building for government engineers and private-sector contractors.
• Familiarity with Zambian standards (NCC, RDA) and environmental and social screening processes (ZEMA); proficiency in digital design tools or GIS is advantageous.
• Strong skills in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and Word.
• Full professional proficiency in English; knowledge of Zambian local languages is a plus.

Work Conditions and Application Process

This full-time, contract-based position is located in Lusaka, Zambia, requiring regular travel to program sites along the activity corridor. The role demands in-person presence, with no remote or hybrid work options available. The appointment is contingent on donor funding and client approvals.
