About the Role – Safety Officer Jobs in Solwezi
Reporting directly to the Safety Manager, the Safety Officer will be instrumental in fostering and maintaining a safe working environment at our Solwezi site. This role requires a proactive individual who can implement robust health and safety policies aligned with company standards and legal requirements. The successful candidate will lead safety initiatives, conduct risk assessments, and ensure compliance across all operational activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enforce site-specific health and safety policies consistent with legal and company standards.
- Perform regular risk assessments and site inspections to identify hazards and implement mitigation strategies.
- Deliver comprehensive safety training, inductions, and toolbox talks to employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Monitor personal protective equipment (PPE) usage and ensure adherence to safety protocols at all times.
- Investigate accidents and near-miss incidents, compiling detailed reports and corrective action plans.
- Maintain accurate safety records, inspection logs, and incident reports in compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate emergency response drills and ensure readiness of fire safety and first-aid equipment.
- Liaise with regulatory authorities during audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
- Promote a strong safety culture by engaging and educating staff on best practices and continuous improvement.
Required Competencies
- Excellent communication skills to effectively engage with all levels of staff and stakeholders.
- Certification and experience in First Aid is highly advantageous.
- Alert, assertive, tactful, and diplomatic approach to safety leadership.
- Willingness to participate in or conduct daily safety briefings.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.
- Effective time management and prioritization skills.
- Ability to collaborate within teams and engage stakeholders constructively.
- Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related discipline.
- Full Grade 12 School Certificate with at least five O-level passes including Mathematics and English.
- Valid Silicosis certification.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in a similar safety role, preferably within the mining industry.
