Position Summary: Safety Officer (20 Vacancies)

As a Safety Officer, you will play a crucial role in promoting occupational health and safety standards across Mopani’s operations. This full-time role involves enforcing safe work practices, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations to protect employees and assets.

Key Responsibilities

• Promote and enforce occupational health and safety policies to foster safer workplace conditions.
• Facilitate risk assessments for routine and non-routine activities within assigned areas.
• Conduct safety inspections and audits on equipment and workplaces to ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
• Collaborate with supervisors and other professionals to maintain safe work environments.
• Enforce proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) in line with regulations.
• Ensure personnel comply with legislation concerning duty of care, workplace activities, and use of plant, equipment, and substances.
• Record and report workplace injuries and occupational illnesses promptly.
• Lead investigations into accidents and unsafe conditions, analyze causes, and recommend corrective actions.
• Conduct health and safety training sessions for supervisors and workers.
• Support emergency procedure coordination and enforcement.
• Communicate regularly with management on occupational health and safety program status.
• Implement occupational health and safety systems including policies and manuals.
• Facilitate Field Safety Leadership (FSL) within designated areas.
• Participate actively in Health, Safety & Environment Committee meetings as a resource.

Qualifications and Experience Required

• Grade 12 Certificate.
• Diploma in Occupational Health, Safety and Environment or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 2 years practical experience in a similar role, preferably within the mining industry.
• Familiarity with ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management standards.
• Valid unrestricted Zambian Blasting Licence applicable to mining operations.
• Membership in the Zambia Occupational Health and Safety Association (ZOHSA).
• All academic qualifications must be certified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently, with strong results orientation and adherence to company policies and corporate objectives.
