Position Overview for Safety Manager Jobs in Lusaka

The Safety Manager will play a critical role in developing, implementing, and overseeing occupational health and safety policies to ensure compliance with relevant mining and safety legislation. The successful candidate will lead safety initiatives, conduct risk assessments, and promote a proactive safety culture across all departments.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor occupational health and safety policies and procedures.
• Conduct workplace inspections, risk assessments, and safety audits to identify hazards and mitigate risks.
• Ensure compliance with applicable mining and occupational health and safety legislation.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses; recommend and oversee corrective actions.
• Deliver safety inductions, toolbox talks, and employee awareness programs to enhance safety knowledge.
• Maintain accurate safety records and prepare regular reports for management review.
• Coordinate emergency preparedness and response activities effectively.
• Monitor the proper issuance and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Promote and sustain a strong safety culture throughout the organization.
• Liaise with regulatory authorities and other relevant stakeholders to ensure compliance and best practices.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, Mining Safety, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role, preferably within mining, manufacturing, construction, or heavy industry sectors.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Zambian occupational health, safety, and mining legislation.
• Proven experience in accident investigation, risk assessment, and safety management systems.
• Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and report-writing skills.
• Professional safety certification is an advantage.
• Proficiency in computer applications relevant to safety management.

Skills and Competencies

• Excellent leadership and team management capabilities.
• In-depth understanding of occupational health and safety legislation and standards.
• Competence in conducting risk assessments, workplace inspections, and safety audits.
• Strong skills in accident and incident investigation.
• Ability to identify hazards and implement effective corrective and preventive measures.
• Effective communication, presentation, and safety training skills.
