Coordinator – Risk & Compliance at CEC Renewables

CEC Renewables is seeking a qualified professional for the role of Coordinator – Risk & Compliance based in Kitwe, Copperbelt, Zambia. Role Overview and Key Responsibilities

The Coordinator – Risk & Compliance will provide expert advice to management on environmental policies and risk management programmes. Reporting directly to the HSES & Community Liaison Officer, the successful candidate will manage the company’s business, operational, and HSES risks, ensuring compliance and continuous improvement across all relevant systems.

  • Identify and manage the company’s business and operational risk profile effectively.
  • Assess and mitigate HSES risks, including conducting due diligence for acquisitions and investments.
  • Perform fraud risk assessments to detect material fraud risks.
  • Complete risk assessments for non-routine tasks and monitor mitigation actions with monthly status reports.
  • Support emergency preparedness and response planning, including reviewing and facilitating departmental emergency response plans.
  • Coordinate biannual emergency drills, ensuring lessons learned are integrated into updated procedures.
  • Maintain the Quality Management System’s effectiveness and compliance with ISO 9001:2015 standards.
  • Conduct internal audits for ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015, issue reports, and follow up on non-conformities.
  • Address external audit recommendations and report risk management effectiveness to the board’s risk committee.
  • Prepare and submit annual risk statements and ongoing risk reports.
  • Deliver risk management training and produce awareness materials for employees and contractors.
  • Maintain and update the Risk and Opportunity registers within the Risk Information Management System (RIMS).

Qualifications and Experience Required

Applicants for this role should meet the following criteria:

  • A degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or Natural Resources.
  • Certification in Environmental Management Systems, specifically ISO 14001.
  • Membership with the Environmental Institute of Zambia (EIZ).
  • At least three years of experience in environmental management, particularly in environmental and social roles of comparable complexity.
  • Strong understanding of Environmental Management Systems and expertise in Environmental Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) studies.
  • Proficiency in report writing, public relations, and delivering presentations with clear, logical communication.
  • Sound business acumen with the ability to anticipate and interpret environmental and social program impacts.
  • Familiarity with IFC Performance Standards and relevant International Labour Organization (ILO) standards.
