We are seeking a dedicated RG Technical Assistant to join our team at BME, located in Kalumbila, North West Province, Zambia. This full-time position offers an excellent opportunity for professionals experienced in mining and blasting environments to contribute to quality control and laboratory analysis within a leading engineering and construction company.

Position Overview

The primary purpose of this role is to ensure that quality control standards are consistently met through timely and accurate analytical testing of production blends. The RG Technical Assistant will be responsible for approving or rejecting blends based on specifications and verifying traded materials against supplier requirements.

Key Responsibilities for RG Technical Assistant Jobs in Kalumbila

  • Product Quality and Risk Prevention: Perform daily reactive ground testing including ISO thermal and temperature ramping tests; analyze incoming tanker deliveries through physical QC analysis; conduct routine QA/QC tests on emulsion and EGA deliveries; sample reactive ground materials across pit areas; and prevent dispatch of non-conforming products.
  • Test Sample Reliability: Calibrate laboratory instruments daily; maintain external calibration records; prepare and standardize reagents for reactive ground testing; perform acidic soil value analyses including XRF mineralisation testing; and manage sample packing, storage, and maintenance.
  • Laboratory Compliance and HSE Requirements: Review and update laboratory work instructions; ensure adherence to SHEQ standards including waste management, chemical storage compatibility, and safety; verify manufacturing and expiry dates on batch stickers to ensure alignment with certificates of analysis (COA).
  • Administration and Reporting: Ensure timely distribution of test reports; communicate results to relevant stakeholders; and process reagent and consumable requisitions via D365 system.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 Certificate is required.
  • Diploma in Structural Geology, Chemical Engineering, Analytical Chemistry, or a related field.
  • A degree in any of the above disciplines will be considered an advantage.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a mining and blasting environment.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in reactive ground testing techniques.
  • Strong knowledge of Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) processes.
  • Laboratory analysis expertise including XRF analysis.
  • Instrument calibration and maintenance skills.
  • Sample collection, management, and documentation.
  • Compliance with SHEQ standards and chemical handling protocols.
  • Experience with data reporting and D365 system operations.
