Key Responsibilities for Restaurant Cook Jobs in Lusaka
- Food Preparation & Cooking: Prepare and cook menu items with attention to taste, presentation, and consistency, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients such as meat, vegetables, and sauces.
- Timely Service: Ensure all dishes are prepared and plated promptly, especially during busy rush hours.
- Kitchen Hygiene & Safety: Maintain a spotless, organized workstation and strictly adhere to food safety protocols, including proper storage, temperature control, and handling.
- Cleaning Duties: Assist with dishwashing, equipment cleaning, and sanitizing prep areas at shift end.
- Inventory Management: Monitor ingredient stock levels, report shortages, practice portion control to minimize waste, and ensure First In, First Out stock rotation.
- Team Collaboration: Communicate effectively with front-of-house staff to ensure order accuracy and support smooth kitchen operations.
Candidate Requirements and Qualifications
- Experience: Proven professional experience as a cook or kitchen assistant in a busy restaurant setting is essential.
- Location: Preference given to candidates residing in Silverest or nearby areas to ensure punctuality for early and late shifts.
- Culinary Skills: Strong knowledge of both local Zambian/African and Western cuisines, excellent knife skills, and familiarity with professional cooking techniques.
- Time Management: Ability to remain calm and efficient under pressure while managing multiple tasks.
- Hygiene Standards: Strict compliance with personal and kitchen sanitation protocols.
- Work Ethic: High energy, reliability, and a team-oriented attitude.
