About Zambart and the PrEPforTwo Study

Zambart is internationally recognized for its interdisciplinary research on HIV and Tuberculosis, influencing policy and practice both nationally and globally. The organization’s vision is to conduct high-quality health research addressing public health priorities in Zambia and to improve health outcomes through evidence-based policy.

In collaboration with the Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) in Antwerp, Belgium, Zambart is implementing the PrEPforTwo study, funded by the Research Foundation Flanders (FWO). This mixed-methods study investigates the integration of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and syphilis testing into antenatal and postnatal care, focusing on pregnant and postpartum adolescent girls and women in Zambia.

The qualitative research component explores the social, individual, and health system factors influencing PrEP decision-making among women, their partners, healthcare providers, and community members. The insights gained will guide the development of woman-centred, contextually relevant HIV and syphilis prevention strategies.

Position: Qualitative Research Assistants (Full Time)

Key Responsibilities for Qualitative Research Assistants

• Plan and conduct qualitative research activities, including in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with pregnant and postpartum adolescent girls and women, their partners, healthcare providers, and community members.
• Introduce the study and its objectives to stakeholders and participants within the study communities.
• Provide clear study information and obtain informed consent while ensuring participant privacy, confidentiality, and respect.
• Accurately transcribe audio recordings and write detailed field notes and interview summaries in a timely manner.
• Organize and manage qualitative data according to Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and study documentation standards.
• Support qualitative data analysis, including rapid qualitative assessments.
• Contribute to the preparation of study outputs such as policy briefs, reports, presentations, and academic publications.
• Assist with technical and progress report preparation for the study funder.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the study supervisor or principal investigator.

Qualifications and Experience Required for Qualitative Research Assistant Jobs in Lusaka

• Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Anthropology, Demography, Public Health, Development Studies, Psychology, Social Work, Gender Studies, or a related social science or health discipline from a recognized institution.
• Demonstrated experience conducting qualitative research, including interviews and focus group discussions.
• Previous involvement in research projects related to HIV, sexual and reproductive health, maternal health, or implementation research is preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; fluency in at least one local language, preferably Nyanja or Bemba.
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and good computer literacy.
• High ethical standards, sound judgment, and analytical ability.
• Flexibility to work in community and health facility settings and a strong interest in a career in academic or public health research.
