About Mafisa Community Transformation Trust Limited

Established in 2018, Mafisa is a Zambian non-profit organisation dedicated to enhancing climate-smart livestock and livelihood practices in Mwandi and surrounding districts. Our model empowers traditional cattle-raising communities to improve herd health, adopt regenerative rangeland management, and access fair market opportunities. Role Overview and Key Responsibilities

The Programme Officer will work closely with Area Coordinators to develop and implement grazing and fire management plans, support animal health services, and facilitate community development activities. This role requires strong coordination, record-keeping, and communication skills to ensure effective programme delivery and community engagement.

• Facilitate formation and meetings of Community Committees, ensuring documentation aligns with free, prior informed consent (FPIC) protocols.
• Support planning and delivery of animal health services, including vaccinations, dipping, and tagging, by reviewing reports and managing veterinary inventory.
• Conduct weekly meetings with Area Coordinators to monitor service delivery, reporting, and disease outbreaks.
• Engage with government extension workers to foster collaboration and information sharing.
• Assist with field assessments, evaluations, and other project-related technical activities.
• Oversee development and monitoring of community fire management and grazing plans, including rotational grazing and range maintenance.
• Maintain communication with rangeland users to explain maintenance requirements and report noncompliance.
• Manage recruitment and training of Community Agents, Rangeland Field Monitors, and Area Coordinators under Field Manager guidance.
• Ensure all personnel comply with HSSE standards, child labour prevention, anti-corruption policies, and other contractual requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Forestry, Environmental Management, Animal Health, or a related field; diploma holders with relevant experience may be considered.
• Valid Standard Class B driving license with ability to drive manual vehicles.
• Minimum of two years’ relevant experience in rangeland management, community development, or similar sectors.
• Proficiency in English and Lozi languages, depending on location.
• Demonstrated ability to use digital data collection tools on computers, tablets, or smartphones.
• Willingness to travel extensively and work in remote, rustic conditions for extended periods, including up to eight consecutive days in field settings.
• Good physical fitness to meet the demands of long hours in the field.
