Role Overview: Principal Financial Auditor

The Principal Financial Auditor will play a crucial role in supporting the development of annual internal audit work plans for the Procurement Department and the Investments and Finance directorate. The position involves conducting comprehensive financial audits and providing expert consulting services to management and staff in accountable business units. Emphasizing a risk-based approach, the role aims to assist management in achieving their strategic and operational objectives.

Key Responsibilities of Principal Financial Auditor Jobs in Zambia

  • Identify and assess auditable areas within business units to develop risk-based annual internal audit plans focused on financial audits.
  • Prepare and participate in Entry and Exit Conferences for each audit project.
  • Develop audit objectives, plans, and scopes aligned with the Internal Audit Charter and organizational priorities.
  • Create detailed, tailored audit programs to ensure comprehensive testing and effective audit techniques.
  • Supervise internal audit staff throughout all phases of audit projects, including planning, execution, and monitoring.
  • Oversee audit assignments by defining issues, developing criteria, analyzing evidence, and documenting processes.
  • Guide audit staff in conducting interviews, document reviews, surveys, and preparing working papers.
  • Review audit work to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and professional auditing standards.
  • Prepare and present clear, concise audit reports for management distribution.
  • Maintain productive, team-oriented relationships with clients and staff through effective communication and collaboration.
  • Facilitate audit processes by addressing issues and staff inquiries promptly.
  • Support staff training, performance evaluation, and professional development initiatives.
  • Represent internal auditing in organizational projects and external engagements as delegated.
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; or professional qualifications such as ACCA, CIMA, or CA Zambia.
  • Additional professional certifications like CIA, CISA, or CFE are advantageous.
  • Membership in the Engineering Institution of Zambia (EIZ) or the Information and Communication Technology Association of Zambia (ICTAZ) is desirable.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in internal or external auditing, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role.

Communication and Professional Skills

The successful candidate must demonstrate strong communication skills, capable of effectively interpreting and conveying company policies and operational matters both orally and in writing using official language.
