Greater Kafue Landscape Limited (GKLL) invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Operations and Conservation Supervisor (OCS) within the Intensive Protection Zone (IPZ) of the Lufupa Sector, located in the iconic Kafue National Park, Zambia. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead frontline conservation and operational efforts in one of Africa’s most significant protected areas.
About the Role and Organisation
African Parks, a non-profit organisation managing protected areas across 13 countries, partners with the Government of Zambia through GKLL to oversee Kafue National Park. The OCS will report directly to the Field Operations Manager for the Lufupa Sector and will be employed on a fixed-term, full-time contract.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of law enforcement, conservation, and operational activities within a high-security environment focused on protecting rhinos and other valuable wildlife species. This position demands strong leadership, independent decision-making, and a commitment to conservation best practices.
Key Responsibilities for Operations and Conservation Supervisor Jobs in Kafue National Park
- Law Enforcement and IPZ Operations: Coordinate and support daily law enforcement activities, supervise field teams including rhino monitoring units, maintain operational discipline, and respond to security and wildlife crime incidents.
- Conservation Management: Lead rhino monitoring, fire management, wildlife surveys, habitat maintenance, and support wildlife introductions or removals as needed.
- Operational and Logistical Support: Assist in managing assets such as vehicles and field infrastructure, coordinate logistics across departments, and ensure operational readiness through proactive maintenance.
- Staff Leadership: Provide supervision, task allocation, discipline enforcement, mentoring, and welfare management to assigned teams.
- Acting Operational Oversight: Assume full operational responsibility in the absence of the Field Operations Manager, making independent decisions to maintain continuity.
- Additional Duties: Perform other lawful tasks as assigned by management to support park objectives.
Candidate Profile and Essential Qualifications
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:

- Strong personal integrity, accountability, and a solutions-driven approach.
- Proven leadership and team management capabilities.
- Commitment to conservation law enforcement and translating strategy into actionable field operations.
Minimum Qualifications and Experience:
- Degree or Diploma in Nature Conservation, Environmental Management, Wildlife Management, Forestry, or related field.
- At least 3 years of relevant work experience, preferably with supervisory or project management responsibilities.
- Willingness and ability to work in field conditions, especially in high-value wildlife protection areas.
- Valid professional driver’s licence without restrictions.
Additional advantages include certifications for heavy-duty driving, motorbike operation, or coxswain duties, as well as experience in law enforcement or protected area management.
Skills and Attributes
- Excellent English communication skills, including report writing and presentations.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Physical fitness and ability to operate in demanding terrain and environmental conditions.
