Ciheb Zambia is a local non-profit organization partnering with the Ministry of Health to enhance HIV prevention and testing services while addressing critical health challenges in communities nationwide. The ZCHAD Study is a longitudinal research project investigating neurocognitive aging, dementia risk factors, and related health outcomes among Zambian adults. The study’s goal is to produce evidence that supports prevention, early detection, and care models tailored to Zambia’s health system.

Role Overview for Neurocognitive Research Assistant Intern Jobs in Mazabuka

The Neurocognitive Research Assistant Intern will play a vital role in supporting the ZCHAD Study by assisting with neurocognitive assessments, participant engagement, data collection, and data management. Reporting to senior research staff, the intern will help administer standardized neuropsychological tests, support fieldwork operations, maintain data integrity, and uphold ethical standards throughout the research process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Neurocognitive Assessments: Assist in administering neurocognitive screening tools and cognitive assessments under supervision; accurately record participant responses.
  • Participant Recruitment and Follow-up: Support recruitment, screening, informed consent, appointment scheduling, and follow-up visits with respect for cultural sensitivity and participant dignity.
  • Data Collection and Management: Collect, review, and enter data using paper-based and electronic systems (including RedCap); perform data quality checks; organize and securely maintain study records.
  • Community and Facility Engagement: Facilitate coordination with health facilities and community stakeholders to promote trust and ensure smooth data collection in community settings.
  • Ethical and Regulatory Compliance: Adhere to study protocols, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), and human subjects research ethics; promptly report any adverse events or protocol deviations.
  • Administrative Support: Assist with documentation, filing, inventory management, and preparation for monitoring visits and audits; participate in trainings and team meetings.

Minimum Qualifications and Desired Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree or recent graduate in Psychology, Social Sciences, or related field.
  • Strong interest in research, aging, brain health, or dementia.
  • Effective communication skills in English and Tonga.
  • Willingness to conduct community-based fieldwork.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including data entry and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Compassionate, respectful approach to working with older adults.
  • Ability to follow protocols and work independently.
  • Prior experience in research, clinical, or community health settings is advantageous.
