As a Metallurgist, you will provide critical technical support to plant operations by collecting and analyzing plant data, developing strategies to optimize performance, and ensuring that key performance indicators such as safety, throughput, recovery, and cost-efficiency are met or exceeded.

Key Responsibilities for Metallurgist Jobs in Kalumbila

  • Develop and implement daily strategies to optimize plant performance and meet operational targets.
  • Collect data via control system historians and sampling to support timely decision-making.
  • Coordinate routine operational checks with process teams and manage plant and laboratory test programs.
  • Analyze flotation operating strategies for long-term optimization.
  • Ensure prompt reporting and resolution of all safety incidents.
  • Provide comprehensive reports on plant operations and improvement initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and lead their implementation.
  • Serve as a liaison between Process Technical and Geology departments.
  • Support metallurgical studies, development, testing, and procedural analyses.
  • Maintain data integrity from online analyzers (OSAs) and participate in shutdown inspections.
  • Investigate root causes of poor performance and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist with troubleshooting in crushing, milling, and service operations during back shifts.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Senior Metallurgist Flotation.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in mineral processing plants, preferably as a metallurgist.
  • Experience with copper and nickel sulphide flotation in large, modern, and automated plants is preferred.
  • Grade 12 certificate required; a degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related fields is strongly preferred.
  • Registration as a member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ) is required.
  • All qualifications must be certified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).

Competencies and Attributes

  • Strong understanding of metallurgical processes, process improvement, and control strategies.
  • Excellent analytical and cognitive skills to identify process bottlenecks and implement testing.
  • Ability to supervise technical research and mentor engineers and technicians.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to produce clear operational reports.
  • Familiarity with SCADA/PCS 7 and PI Process Book is an advantage.
  • Demonstrated leadership, motivation, and accountability to achieve results through teamwork.
  • Ability to maintain composure and self-discipline in high-pressure environments.
  • Proactive, enthusiastic, and able to work effectively in a multicultural setting.
