The Metallurgist Hydromet Optimisation role focuses on maximising cathode production and target recoveries by monitoring plant performance, identifying operational gaps, and developing effective solutions. You will work closely with the operations team to support and improve hydrometallurgical processes at the Kansanshi Mining Project (KMP).

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical support and expert guidance to the operations team.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of leaching, solvent extraction, and electro-winning processes.
  • Monitor plant performance daily, troubleshoot issues, and deliver actionable feedback to meet production targets.
  • Analyse metallurgical data and prepare detailed technical reports.
  • Manage reagent consumption efficiently and optimise usage.
  • Lead and support process improvement projects in collaboration with internal departments and external vendors.
  • Conduct plant trials, interpret results, and recommend operational enhancements.
  • Perform laboratory test work, including leaching and settling tests, to evaluate plant performance.
  • Communicate effectively across departments to ensure timely information flow for decision-making.
  • Adhere strictly to safety regulations and company procedures to protect personnel, assets, and the environment.
  • Undertake additional duties as required to support plant and laboratory functions.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Full Grade 12 certificate.
  • A degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • All academic qualifications and results must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
  • Minimum of two years’ relevant experience in a plant environment preferred.
  • Experience with laboratory hydrometallurgy test work and hydromet operational environments is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of high-pressure leach operations and proficiency in data analysis tools such as Excel and PI System is a plus.
