Role Overview – Mechanical Technical Coach Jobs in Solwezi
The Mechanical Backend Technical Coach will be responsible for coaching and developing the technical and behavioural competencies of FQM-Kansanshi Process Plant Artisans. This includes on-the-job coaching, formal training delivery, and continuous assessment to ensure high-quality work and operational efficiency. The successful candidate will embody a People First mindset, inspiring learners through expertise and engagement.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere to all relevant policies and legal requirements relating to health, safety, environment, quality, finance, and human resources.
- Deliver targeted coaching and training based on identified needs within the Backend Sections of the engineering department.
- Role model best practices and foster a continuous learning environment using coaching methodologies and instructional techniques.
- Utilize effective listening and questioning skills to engage learners with their development plans and assessments.
- Provide visible leadership on-site, championing quality and safety standards.
- Identify skill gaps through assessments and observations, designing interventions and following up on their effectiveness.
- Support the development of high-potential Artisans for progression into senior roles.
- Design and complete assessments aligned with the FQM Proficiency Framework; occasionally act as an independent assessor for other FQM sites in Zambia.
- Maintain accurate records of coaching activities and learner progress using company learning management tools.
- Collaborate with the training department to define and address training needs.
- Coach supervisors to enhance their leadership and supervisory capabilities, promoting a coaching culture across the organization.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completed Grade 12 (G12) school certificate.
- Minimum Craft Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent Trade Certificate.
- OEM certification Level 3 or 4 is advantageous.
- Valid EIZ license required.
- All academic qualifications must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
- 10 to 15 years’ experience in fixed plant maintenance within mining operations, including hands-on knowledge of pumps, concentrate thickeners, stripping machines, overhead cranes, lubrication/hydraulic systems, welding, V-belt and shaft alignment, and mechanical diagnostics.
- Experience interpreting vibration analysis, condition-based maintenance, and oil sample analysis.
- Familiarity with maintenance reliability tools such as Five Whys and FMECA.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems, preferably Pronto.
- 3 to 5 years supervisory experience is an advantage.
- Proficient computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and willingness to learn new software.
- Demonstrable coaching experience or certification in workforce upskilling and coaching program implementation.

- Availability to work standby, shifts, and overtime as required.
- Ability to manage crews and supervise tasks with minimal oversight.
- Experience managing interns, students on attachment, and Kwambula development initiatives.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
