About the Role
Reporting to the Assistant Maintenance Manager, the Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent will take strategic leadership of mechanical maintenance activities across the process plant, equipment, and infrastructure. The successful candidate will improve equipment availability and reliability by implementing efficient maintenance strategies and fostering a culture of zero harm.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing full accountability for mechanical maintenance operations and team performance.
- Promoting a zero-harm safety culture through compliance with occupational health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Developing and executing preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) strategies to maximize asset lifecycle and availability.
- Leading shutdown planning and maintenance execution to minimize downtime and enhance operational efficiency.
- Managing the maintenance budget with a focus on cost optimization using Zero-Based Budgeting principles.
- Monitoring key performance indicators such as availability, downtime, preventive maintenance compliance, and backlog to drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborating closely with maintenance planners to ensure effective work management and high schedule compliance.
- Overseeing contractor governance, including competency assessments and scope of work reviews.
- Implementing continuous improvement initiatives to enhance maintenance processes and equipment performance.
- Ensuring workforce competency and safety compliance, with authority to permit or prohibit work based on qualifications and safety standards.
- Developing standardized job procedures and best practices across the maintenance function.
- Leading team development through coaching, performance reviews, and succession planning.
- Maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners, including community engagement efforts.
- Supporting strategic alignment by enabling shared infrastructure and continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.
Candidate Requirements for Mechanical Maintenance Superintendent Jobs in Kalumbila
Applicants must meet the following qualifications and experience criteria:
- Full Grade 12 Certificate.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Membership in the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ).
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably within mining or mineral processing environments.
- Strong technical knowledge of maintenance systems and expertise in predictive and condition-based maintenance methodologies.
- Proven leadership skills in managing maintenance teams, driving safety performance, and implementing operational excellence.
- Experience in budgeting, cost control, and financial management of maintenance operations with a focus on efficiency and value delivery.
- Excellent communication skills, including report writing and presentations, with the ability to engage effectively at all organizational levels.
