About the Role – Mechanical Fitter Jobs in Lusaka

Reporting directly to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Mechanical Fitter will be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and overhauling mechanical equipment to ensure smooth production processes. The role emphasizes minimizing equipment downtime while adhering to safety, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP), and food safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance on production machinery.
• Install, dismantle, repair, and reassemble mechanical components and equipment.
• Troubleshoot mechanical faults and restore equipment to operational condition efficiently.
• Conduct routine inspections of conveyors, gearboxes, bearings, motors, pumps, compressors, elevators, and related machinery.
• Replace worn or defective parts, ensuring proper alignment and fitting.
• Support machine installation, commissioning, and relocation projects.
• Collaborate with the Production Department to minimize equipment downtime.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations, GMP, HACCP, and food safety standards during all maintenance activities.
• Complete maintenance work orders and maintain accurate records.
• Identify recurring equipment failures and recommend permanent corrective actions.
• Maintain good housekeeping and implement 5S practices within workshops and production areas.
• Assist with spare parts identification, inventory control, and requisition.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance machine reliability and plant efficiency.
• Follow Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and company safety policies during maintenance operations.

Qualifications and Experience

• Craft Certificate, Diploma, or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Fitting & Machining, or a related technical discipline.
• Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience as a Mechanical Fitter in an FMCG or manufacturing environment.
• Proven experience maintaining production machinery such as conveyors, bucket elevators, packaging machines, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, and pneumatic systems.
• Strong knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance techniques.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and technical manuals accurately.
• Welding and fabrication skills are an advantage.
• Familiarity with GMP, HACCP, and food safety regulations in food manufacturing settings.
• Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Ability to work independently under pressure and respond effectively to emergency breakdowns.
• Basic computer proficiency for maintenance reporting and documentation.
• Willingness to work shifts as required.
