Hitachi Construction Machinery Zambia is seeking a skilled Mechanical Assembly Technician to join our team at the Kansanshi Mine Site in Solwezi, Northwestern Province. This full-time position offers an excellent opportunity for professionals experienced in assembling and maintaining heavy mining equipment. The successful candidate will play a vital role in assembling Hitachi EH4000 Rigid Dump Trucks, ensuring all activities meet stringent quality, safety, and OEM standards.

Position Overview: Mechanical Assembly Technician in Solwezi

As a Mechanical Assembly Technician, you will be responsible for the precise assembly, installation, alignment, inspection, testing, and commissioning support of the EH4000 dump trucks. Your work will directly contribute to meeting production targets while maintaining high standards of quality and safety compliance. This role demands a strong mechanical aptitude and the ability to work efficiently within a team environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Mechanical Assembly: Assemble major dump truck structures and components including engines, transmissions, wheel groups, steering, braking, and powertrain systems.
• Hydraulic Assembly: Install hydraulic pumps, cylinders, hoses, valves, and piping while ensuring contamination control and correct system routing.
• Quality Inspection & Verification: Conduct inspections during each build phase, perform dimensional and torque checks, complete OEM checklists, and address any defects.
• Testing & Commissioning Support: Assist with pre-delivery inspections, machine testing, commissioning activities, and final quality acceptance.
• Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols including Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO) procedures, and maintain a safe working environment.
• Documentation & Reporting: Maintain accurate assembly records, quality reports, and provide regular progress updates.
• Tool & Asset Management: Manage company tools and equipment, ensuring proper care, storage, and timely reporting of any defects.
• Continuous Improvement: Participate in problem-solving, recommend procedural improvements, and support productivity initiatives.

Qualifications and Experience

• Full Grade 12 Certificate is required.
• Advanced Certificate in Heavy Equipment Repair (HER), Mechanical Engineering, or related trade is essential.
• A Diploma in Heavy Equipment Repair or Mechanical Engineering is advantageous.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in heavy equipment assembly, maintenance, or repair.
• Proven skills in mechanical fitting and assembly on heavy machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly manuals, and technical procedures.
• Experience with mining equipment and rigid dump trucks is a plus.
• Valid, unendorsed manual driver’s license.
