The MEAL Officer will support the “Better Care for Small and Sick Newborns in Zambia” initiative, implemented in partnership with Vayu Global Health, the Ministry of Health, and funded by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Charities. This project targets neonatal mortality reduction by improving respiratory care through bubble Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (bCPAP), strengthening referral systems, and enhancing health worker capacity across Lusaka, Central, and Southern Provinces.
Role Purpose and Key Responsibilities
The MEAL Officer will provide technical oversight and operational support for monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning within the project. This role is critical to ensuring robust data management, verification, and reporting to facilitate adaptive management and evidence-based decision making.
- Lead the implementation of effective MEAL systems in collaboration with program teams and partners.
- Oversee data collection, cleaning, verification, and compilation of reports for internal and external stakeholders.
- Package and present data clearly to meet reporting requirements and enhance stakeholder learning.
- Build capacity of program and partner staff in MEAL processes.
- Contribute to strategic and annual planning, internal reporting, and evidence generation.
- Liaise with Ministry of Health staff at facility, district, and provincial levels, as well as with internal SCI teams and external technical counterparts.
