Key Responsibilities for Logistics Officer Jobs in Kitwe

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and coordinating daily transport activities to ensure smooth operations. Core duties include:

• Scheduling, routing, and dispatching vehicles and drivers efficiently in the field.
• Monitoring transportation costs and identifying opportunities to reduce expenses.
• Developing and maintaining transport performance metrics and reports to drive continuous improvement.
• Ensuring vehicle safety and roadworthiness through planned maintenance and routine inspections.
• Tracking costs and recommending disposal of vehicles that are no longer economical to operate.
• Preparing annual transport plans and budgets, and exercising budgetary control.
• Ensuring all vehicles are insured and coordinating insurance claims with the Insurance Officer as necessary.
• Implementing cost-saving technologies such as fleet management software and GPS tracking systems to prevent vehicle misuse.
• Reviewing and recommending updates to transport policies and procedures to support business objectives.
• Monitoring fuel consumption and implementing strategies to optimize fuel efficiency and route planning.
• Supervising outsourced contracts related to vehicle servicing, repairs, and fuel supply.

Qualifications and Experience Required

To be considered for this logistics officer position, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Grade 12 School Certificate, General Certificate of Education (GCE), or equivalent.
• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Transport and Logistics Management or a related field.
• At least five (5) years of relevant post-qualification experience in transport and/or logistics management.
• Valid membership with the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport.
