The Logistics Manager will be responsible for managing the company’s fleet, ensuring transport availability aligns with scheduled deliveries, and adhering to supply chain protocols. This position requires continuous evaluation and improvement of delivery methods to meet customer demands efficiently and cost-effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Select and maintain trucks to ensure timely deliveries within budget constraints.
  • Plan and optimize delivery routes and schedules for multi-drop consignments.
  • Ensure compliance with transport regulations, including driver licensing and load weight restrictions.
  • Lead and participate in regional logistics meetings and local transport committees.
  • Manage all logistics assets to guarantee cost-effective and timely cargo delivery.
  • Oversee vehicle accident reporting and investigations, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
  • Coordinate regular servicing of transporter vehicles in line with advisory standards.
  • Mobilize resources and manage special logistics operations as required.
  • Maintain accurate accounting, reporting, and internal controls related to logistics activities.
  • Allocate and record fleet resources and movements using transport planning systems.
  • Book and monitor subcontractors to ensure adherence to agreed terms.
  • Record shipment details, including weight, charges, and damages.
  • Negotiate transport contracts in collaboration with the procurement department.
  • Manage relationships with key transport suppliers across road and rail sectors.
  • Address and resolve issues related to damages, shortages, and specification non-conformance.
  • Document and escalate customer service or shipping/receiving discrepancies.
  • Supervise GPS tracker usage to monitor truck locations and driver behavior.
  • Ensure staff compliance with policies, safety regulations, union contracts, and government laws.
  • Promote workplace safety through audits, meetings, and individual engagement.
  • Ensure trucks are not overloaded and maintain roadworthy conditions.
  • Manage authorized vehicle storage at designated operating centers or resting sites.
  • Oversee commodity management and quality control processes.
  • Lead contingency planning and logistics preparedness reviews.
  • Coordinate with local and regional transportation companies and other organizations.
  • Manage fleet security arrangements and coordinate evacuations if necessary.

  • Proven experience managing a large fleet of heavy-duty trucks (150–300 vehicles).
  • Demonstrated expertise in GPS tracking systems.
  • Experience working in multinational corporate environments is advantageous.
  • Active membership in the Zambia Institute of Chartered Logistics and Transport (ZCILT) is required.
