The Legal Counsel (AVP) will plan, manage, and oversee legal activities, ensuring they support approved operational plans efficiently and effectively. This role requires a deep understanding of banking products and transactions, with responsibility for structuring, negotiating, and drafting complex agreements that are legally enforceable and compliant with regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities for Legal Counsel Jobs in Lusaka
- Provide proactive and commercially sound legal advice aligned with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with banking legislation, Bank of Zambia directives, AML/CFT, data protection, and consumer protection laws.
- Monitor regulatory developments and deliver timely, defensible legal guidance.
- Support regulatory engagement and reporting processes.
- Identify, assess, and mitigate legal risks across business units, integrating them into enterprise risk frameworks.
- Manage litigation in accordance with internal policies to safeguard the Bank’s interests.
- Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and manage external counsel.
- Contribute to governance, control frameworks, and continuous legal process improvements.
- Promote a culture of high ethical standards, compliance, and sound judgement throughout the organisation.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor Honours Degree in Law, Military Science, or Security (required).
