About the Laboratory Advisor Role

Reporting directly to the Technical Director, the Laboratory Advisor will play a pivotal role in enhancing laboratory systems related to HIV and TB diagnostics. Based in Solwezi, the successful candidate will oversee provincial and district health offices to ensure continuous access to critical diagnostics, including HIV testing, Recency testing, viral load monitoring, and tester/facility certification. This role starts in July 2026 and demands a proactive leader capable of delivering both technical and operational guidance.

Key Responsibilities for Laboratory Advisor Jobs in Solwezi

• Lead the implementation and management of the HIV laboratory portfolio within the care and treatment project.
• Provide high-level technical assistance and oversight to provincial and district laboratory services as well as facility-based support.
• Support PHO and DHO teams in laboratory operations, monitoring, training, and maintenance across supported ART sites.
• Mentor laboratory staff in supply chain management and quality assurance systems.
• Develop and implement quality control procedures for HIV-related laboratory services.
• Collaborate with partners to expand Recency testing coverage within supported provinces.
• Facilitate onsite certification and capacity building for testers and facilities.
• Work closely with PCR specialists and viral load testing teams to optimize reagent and system management.
• Strengthen courier systems for Early Infant Diagnosis (EID) and viral load testing.
• Complete additional duties and special assignments as required.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science is required; a Master’s degree is advantageous.
• Full Grade 12 certificate.
• Minimum of seven years’ experience in a large clinical or research laboratory setting, preferably within donor-funded projects.
• Proven expertise in HIV/TB laboratory procedures, including viral load, Recency testing, PCR, and other relevant analyses.
• Experience in training, mentoring, and supervising laboratory professionals.
• Proficiency with basic computing tools, including Microsoft Excel.
• Fluency in English, both written and oral.
• Registration with the Health Professions Council of Zambia (HPCZ) and a valid practicing license for 2026.
• Validated qualifications with the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZaQA).
• Experience working with international NGOs is an added advantage.
