About the Role

The Lab Technician will play a critical role in implementing and maintaining brewery-wide microbiological standards and best practices. This position ensures compliance with microbiological processes and product specifications, supporting quality and safety across brewing and packaging operations. You will collaborate with various internal departments and external suppliers to uphold hygiene standards that prevent contamination and promote operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities for Lab Technician Jobs in Lusaka

• Manage relationships with cleaning contractors and internal teams including Brewing, Packaging, and Engineering to optimize hygiene standards.
• Lead the Hygiene Steering Committee to evaluate and improve hygiene practices, facilitating team problem-solving sessions.
• Apply Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) principles to prevent microbiological contamination in brewing and packaging processes.
• Report microbiological performance to brewery personnel and revise operating procedures to enhance compliance.
• Coordinate with safety teams to ensure operating practices are both safe and hygienic.
• Conduct audits and workplace training to identify and close gaps in microbiological compliance.
• Audit the microbiological laboratory to ensure adherence to global methodologies and standards.
• Identify technological improvements through QA projects to advance microbiological compliance.
• Provide leadership and technical expertise in microbiological work practices and supplier hygiene governance.

Health, Safety, and Process Control

• Ensure strict adherence to PPE policies and laboratory safety protocols.
• Identify and address unsafe conditions and improper work practices promptly.
• Handle chemicals and hazardous substances according to documented procedures.
• Maintain housekeeping schedules and report incidents as required.
• Perform sampling and analysis following manualized methods to guarantee sample integrity and accurate results.
• Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment according to established schedules and recordkeeping standards.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or Higher National Diploma in Microbiology, Laboratory Technology, or related fields. B Tech in Chemistry is an advantage.
• 2 to 3 years of experience in laboratory, brewing, or packaging operations.
• Strong knowledge of microbiological laboratory systems, processes, and analyses.
• Proficiency in problem-solving techniques, statistics, and auditing.
• Good understanding of HACCP, GMP standards, and Clean-In-Place (CIP) requirements.
• PC literacy and familiarity with AB InBev manufacturing processes and philosophies.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
