Position Overview: Junior Lawyer Role
The Junior Lawyer will play a crucial role in managing legal risks by reviewing documentation and advising on acceptable risk assumptions. The successful candidate will interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for both natural and juristic persons, conduct comprehensive legal research, and gather relevant evidence. Responsibilities include case research through depositions, site inspections, and discovery processes involving information exchange between parties.
Key Responsibilities in Junior Lawyer Jobs in Lusaka
- Provide legal representation for clients in civil and criminal court proceedings.
- Manage regulatory compliance and related services effectively.
- Interview new clients and consult with existing clients to offer sound legal advice.
- Assist clients seeking Orders for Protection and attend court hearings as required.
- Ensure all necessary approvals are secured before executing documents.
- Explain legal concepts and advise clients clearly and accurately.
- Represent clients at arbitration and mediation hearings.
- Draft, review, and manage legal documents including wills, trusts, estates, contracts, and deeds.
- Develop innovative solutions to complex client issues.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of paralegals and legal assistants.
- Prepare pleadings, notices, and make court appearances as directed by senior partners.
- Maintain accurate client records and statistical data in collaboration with legal assistants.
Qualifications and Experience Required
- A degree in Law from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of three years post-Bar experience with a well-established legal firm or corporate organization.
- Extensive experience in litigation and corporate law.
- Proven ability to draft, negotiate, and review a wide range of legal documents.
- Experience liaising with statutory and voluntary agencies.
- Membership with the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) is mandatory.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
