Role Overview: JCB Operator Jobs in Zambia

The JCB Operator will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of JCB/backhoe loader machinery to support various construction and earthmoving tasks. This role demands strict adherence to safety protocols, routine equipment maintenance, and effective collaboration with site supervisors to ensure smooth operational workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate JCB/backhoe loader equipment safely, using appropriate attachments for tasks such as digging, trenching, backfilling, and earthmoving.
• Perform loading and transportation of soil, gravel, sand, and other construction materials.
• Carry out site preparation activities including land levelling, grading, sloping, and banking.
• Assist with drainage and trenching operations as directed by supervisors.
• Conduct daily pre-start inspections checking engine oil, coolant, hydraulics, tyres, brakes, and attachments.
• Report any mechanical issues, leaks, or unusual noises promptly to the supervisor.
• Maintain cleanliness and good working condition of the equipment through routine cleaning and lubrication.
• Complete daily equipment inspection records and logbooks accurately.
• Comply fully with UNO Energies’ health, safety, environmental, and operational procedures, using all required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Immediately halt work and report unsafe conditions that could cause injury, damage, or environmental harm.

Qualifications and Experience Required

• Full Grade 12 School Certificate.
• Certificate or Diploma in Heavy Equipment Operation, Earthmoving Equipment Operations, or a related field.
• Valid Driver’s Licence and a JCB/Heavy Equipment Operator’s Permit or equivalent certification.
• Minimum 1 to 2 years of proven experience operating JCB/backhoe loaders in excavation, trenching, backfilling, and earthmoving tasks.
• Basic knowledge of equipment inspection and maintenance procedures.
• Strong understanding of occupational health and safety standards.
• Ability to follow instructions and collaborate effectively with supervisors and team members.
• Physically fit, responsible, mature, sober, and alert during machinery operation.
• Capability to work outdoors in industrial and construction environments.
