The IT department plays a critical role in ensuring seamless connectivity and reliable technology across our offices and field sites.

Role Overview for IT Support Intern Jobs in Lusaka

Reporting to the IT Manager, the IT Support Intern will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting computer hardware and network systems. This hands-on role emphasizes hardware diagnostics, network administration, and supporting connectivity for our IoT devices. The ideal candidate is a practical problem-solver with strong networking and hardware skills who can work independently and take ownership of technical issues.

Key Responsibilities

• Network Infrastructure Management: Install and maintain LAN/WAN equipment including routers, switches, firewalls, and access points; monitor network performance; manage network security; support IoT device connectivity; configure and troubleshoot VoIP systems.
• Hardware Support & Maintenance: Install and repair desktops, laptops, printers, and peripherals; maintain hardware inventory; set up and decommission workstations securely.
• Troubleshooting & Technical Support: Serve as first contact for IT support requests; resolve hardware, network, and basic software issues; maintain helpdesk logs; escalate complex issues; provide user training.
• Documentation & Reporting: Keep technical documentation current; prepare reports on support trends and infrastructure health; recommend improvements; log all IT activities for audit and continuity.

Skills and Competencies Required

• Strong knowledge of hardware diagnostics, repair, and maintenance.
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, and switching.
• Experience configuring routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
• Methodical, hands-on problem-solving approach.
• Effective communication skills to explain technical issues to non-technical staff.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple support requests across sites.
• Team-oriented with collaborative skills.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Networking, IT, Computer Engineering, or related field.
• Practical experience in IT support, hardware, or networking roles is advantageous.
• Industry certifications such as Cisco CCNA or equivalent are a plus.
• Membership with ICTAZ preferred.
• Experience supporting IoT or field-deployed technology is beneficial.
• Familiarity with structured cabling, server/rack hardware, and basic system administration.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and IT support ticketing tools.
