Position Overview

Reporting directly to the Finance and Audit Committee and the Chief Executive Officer, the Internal Auditor will conduct risk-based audits, identify control weaknesses, and recommend practical improvements. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with management to ensure corrective actions are implemented, support compliance with industry standards and legal requirements, and provide valuable insights to strengthen the organization’s risk management and governance frameworks.

Key Responsibilities for Internal Auditor Jobs in Lusaka

  • Evaluate and test current internal control systems and documentation to ensure adequacy and effectiveness.
  • Assess the design and suitability of internal controls and processes.
  • Identify significant control weaknesses and communicate findings promptly to management.
  • Perform risk assessments and execute internal audits in accordance with the approved audit plan.
  • Monitor and follow up on the implementation of remedial action plans.
  • Develop and implement an annual audit plan aligned with organizational objectives.
  • Plan and conduct audits, defining objectives, scope, and risk assessments.
  • Prepare audit programs and maintain compliance with internal audit documentation standards.
  • Compile detailed reports with observations, recommendations, and improvement suggestions.
  • Present audit findings during meetings with relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure continuous monitoring of management’s corrective actions until full resolution.
  • Identify and schedule follow-up audits based on risk evaluations.
  • Oversee measures to prevent fraud and eliminate conditions conducive to fraudulent activities.
  • Perform additional tasks as required to support the audit function.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 Certificate is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Finance, or professional qualifications such as CA Zambia, ACCA, CIMA, or CIA.
  • Membership with the Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA) is essential.
  • Membership in The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA Zambia) is mandatory.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in internal audit, with health sector experience considered an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of internal audit principles, standards, and internal control environments.
  • Familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and industry best practices is beneficial.
  • Ability to enhance risk management, control, and governance processes.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, report writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
