Key Responsibilities of the Industrial Hygiene Officer

  • Comply with all relevant health, safety, environmental, quality, finance, and human resources policies and legislative requirements.
  • Conduct routine, ad hoc, and comprehensive industrial hygiene monitoring surveys to evaluate occupational hazards and ensure compliance with national and international standards.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative risk assessments to evaluate employee exposure profiles accurately.
  • Utilize industrial hygiene instruments to measure and sample employee exposure levels precisely.
  • Monitor adherence to industrial hygiene procedures and recommend effective controls for occupational health hazards.
  • Prepare clear, user-friendly internal reports and maintain the industrial hygiene register and data bank.
  • Collaborate effectively with team members to achieve occupational health and safety objectives.
  • Stay informed on scientific and legal developments related to industrial hygiene and occupational health.
  • Conduct gas testing for confined space entry to ensure occupant safety.
  • Adhere strictly to safety regulations to prevent incidents and accidents.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by company leadership.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Minimum education: Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Professional qualification: Diploma in a field related to Industrial Hygiene.
  • Knowledge of NIOSH, ACGIH, and OSHA industrial hygiene sampling methods is advantageous.
  • Valid driving license required; ability to drive within pit areas is an added advantage.
  • All academic qualifications and results must be verified by the Zambia Qualifications Authority (ZAQA).
  • At least three years of practical experience in industrial hygiene.
