About the Role: Import Export Governance Expert Jobs in Lusaka
As an Import Export Governance Expert at Bayer, you will be directly responsible for managing global trade export and import transactions in strict accordance with local and international laws as well as company policies. Your role will involve overseeing and controlling all import and export activities to guarantee compliant product flows from origin to destination countries.
You will lead process management initiatives, supervise teams, and ensure that all trade operations adhere to regulatory requirements and internal standards. This position requires a strategic mindset and the ability to coordinate across multiple departments to maintain smooth and compliant trade operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage critical import and export transactions, ensuring compliance with trade laws and company procedures.
- Lead the Trade Compliance Council, collaborating with Procurement, Customer Operations, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Regulatory, Tax, and Research teams.
- Communicate import requirements across the EMEA region and Crop Science product portfolio.
- Guide phytosanitary import clearance processes and report regulatory changes for system updates.
- Implement and harmonize internal controls across the product portfolio.
- Oversee Green Light Operations, HS dispute resolution, and off-system processes in coordination with the Center of Excellence.
- Audit team members’ files to maintain audit-ready status and provide first-line support for Customs Audits.
- Support license requests for non-commercial goods and govern local import-export operations including bonded warehouses and clearance procedures.
- Deploy Bayer policies, procedures, and systems such as Margo, DocDash, and IGL platforms, acting as Chief Compliance Officer.
- Establish communities for sharing best practices within import-export supply chain management.
- Define troubleshooting teams and develop process solutions to address recurring challenges.
- Support the enablement of new business models and internal customer-specific projects within the region.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in business, agriculture, or a relevant field.
- 6 to 8 years of experience in supply chain management and/or trade compliance.
- Proven ability to coordinate cross-functional and cross-cultural teams effectively.
- Strong project management skills combined with a strategic mindset.
- Excellent communication and leadership capabilities.
- High cross-cultural sensitivity and fluency in English.
Location and Division
This full-time position is based in Lusaka, Zambia, within Bayer’s Crop Science division.
