Position Overview

The successful candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Human Resource Management, Public Administration, or a related field. Experience in managing HR functions in a mining or similar industrial environment is highly preferred. This role requires a strong understanding of Zambian labour laws and mining industry regulations to ensure compliance across all HR activities.

Key Responsibilities for Human Resources Officer Jobs in Lusaka

  • Maintain comprehensive HR records for both Head Office and site-based staff, including contracts, personal files, medicals, inductions, training, licenses, leave, and disciplinary records.
  • Coordinate recruitment processes for office and site roles: drafting job adverts, shortlisting candidates, organizing interviews, conducting reference checks, and issuing offer letters.
  • Facilitate onboarding and induction activities such as medical examinations, safety inductions, issuance of mine passes/ID cards, and contract signing.
  • Manage attendance, shift schedules, and leave for employees rotating between Lusaka and various mine/project sites; prepare accurate HR inputs for payroll processing.
  • Ensure all HR practices align with the Zambian Labour Code, Mines and Minerals legislation, health and safety standards, and internal company policies.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for employee queries and grievances, supporting line managers in disciplinary and performance management processes.
  • Support performance management including appraisals, probation reviews, and performance improvement plans.
  • Coordinate staff training and development programs, maintaining up-to-date training and competency records.
  • Prepare HR reports for management covering headcount, staff movements, turnover, leave balances, recruitment status, gender, and localisation statistics.
  • Collaborate with site administrators and camp managers to ensure consistent application of HR policies at all project sites.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all HR information, ensuring meticulous filing of both hard copy and electronic records.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Human Resource Management, Public Administration, or related discipline.
  • 3 to 5 years of HR experience, ideally within the mining sector.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management (ZIHRM) is an advantage.
  • Strong knowledge of Zambian labour laws and mining sector workplace environments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • High integrity, confidentiality, and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with HR or payroll systems.
