Key Responsibilities of the HSE Coordinator

As an HSE Coordinator, you will champion BIA’s health, safety, and environmental policies by implementing effective systems and fostering a strong safety culture within your area of responsibility. Your main duties will include:

  • Ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety legislation and promoting awareness across the organization.
  • Leading investigations into accidents and unsafe conditions, analyzing root causes, and recommending corrective measures.
  • Facilitating learning from incidents and best practices to standardize HSE procedures in line with BIA’s standards.
  • Coordinating emergency response teams including mine rescue, firefighting, and first aid crews.
  • Maintaining and updating hazard identification and risk assessment records, ensuring controls are appropriate and effective.
  • Promoting Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) for non-routine activities and ensuring understanding and application of these assessments.
  • Participating in the development and training of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for routine and non-routine tasks.
  • Overseeing weekly inspections and ensuring equipment certification complies with relevant legislation.
  • Monitoring HSE training needs, developing sessions, and maintaining training records and matrices.
  • Collecting and reporting monthly HSE performance data and indicators.
  • Reporting incidents promptly and participating in accident investigations with proposed corrective actions.
  • Implementing and monitoring the 5S methodology, including inspections, audits, and reporting.

Candidate Profile for HSE Coordinator Jobs in Zambia

We are looking for candidates with a strong background in health, safety, and environmental management, particularly within mining or related industries. Ideal qualifications include:

  • A degree in Health, Safety & Environment or a related discipline, with a NEBOSH Diploma highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 standards; lead auditor certification is an advantage.
  • A minimum of five years’ professional experience in HSE roles.
  • At least three years of supervisory or managerial experience on mining sites.
