About the HR Officer Role
The HR Officer will collaborate closely with the Head of HR & Administration to support various business units by implementing effective human resource strategies. This role involves coordinating the performance management process, administering HR policies related to recruitment, employee welfare, pensions, medical benefits, housing, and salary administration. You will also manage disciplinary procedures, grievances, and ensure a safe and healthy working environment. Building and maintaining strong relationships with HR leadership, business leaders, and employees is essential.
Key Responsibilities in HR Officer Jobs in Lusaka
- Coordinate the bank’s performance management process alongside the Head of HR.
- Enforce compliance with health and safety regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Ensure employees respect workplace safety provisions to maintain a safe environment.
- Rationalize labor headcount to optimize productivity.
- Assist with staff remuneration by providing accurate data to the Finance department.
- Facilitate labor restructuring processes such as layoffs, retrenchments, or redeployments.
- Manage end-to-end recruitment including job advertisement, interviewing, reference checks, and contract preparation.
- Conduct employee inductions and manage onboarding as well as exit interviews.
- Support supervisors and managers in grievance handling, dispute resolution, performance management, and disciplinary actions.
- Track employee attendance and movements.
- Issue leave forms and advise employees on annual leave scheduling.
- Assist with monthly performance appraisals.
- Maintain comprehensive HR records and update the HR system regularly.
- Contribute to planning and coordinating personnel, training, and labor relations activities.
- Research and advise on compensation and benefits strategies.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or Social Sciences.
- 4 to 6 years of experience in HR and administration within a commercial bank, micro-financial institution, or FMCG sector.
- Strong knowledge of labor laws and contract management.
- Proven ability to prepare detailed HR reports.
- Familiarity with bank procedures, policies, and safety regulations.
- Experience with performance management software is an advantage.
- Membership in the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management (ZIHRM) with a valid practicing certificate for 2026.
