About the HR Assistant Role

Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, the HR Assistant will play a pivotal role in managing recruitment strategies, employee welfare, and compliance with Zambian labour laws. You will be responsible for attracting and onboarding qualified candidates, maintaining accurate employee records, and supporting performance management processes. This role also involves fostering a positive workplace culture and ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities for HR Assistant Jobs in Lusaka

  • Develop and execute recruitment strategies to attract top talent.
  • Manage the full recruitment cycle including job postings, candidate screening, interviews, and onboarding.
  • Maintain an up-to-date candidate database and conduct thorough background and reference checks.
  • Maintain employee records, contracts, and HR documentation with accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Collaborate with the Accountant to process payroll efficiently.
  • Ensure compliance with Zambian labour laws and internal company policies.
  • Support performance management, staff appraisals, and handle employee relations professionally.
  • Develop and implement HR policies, procedures, and codes of conduct.
  • Monitor attendance, discipline, and compliance with company regulations.
  • Coordinate training sessions, workshops, and professional development programs.
  • Provide HR reports on staffing, turnover, and workforce planning to management.
  • Advise management on best HR practices, motivation, and retention strategies.
  • Support initiatives to build company culture, staff welfare, and team cohesion.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional HR certification such as ZIHRM is an advantage.
  • At least 2 to 3 years of experience in HR and recruitment roles.
  • Strong understanding of Zambian labour laws and HR best practices.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and integrity.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and HR/recruitment software.
